Well I didnt think i would write this so soon, but I had a very interesting
night. This morning at church I received a card that said “Shine the light
of Jesus by purchasing lunch for someone who is homeless”. I didn’t really
think much of ti until tonight. When I got off of work, I went by the bank
to drop off the bank deposit. A man and his boy where sitting in a car while
I was there. When i walked back to my car he walked over to me in tears. He
said his daughter had just been a bad car accident in the northern part of
the county and his daughter had to be air lifted to chapel hill. He said he
was waiting for the pastor of his church to come give him some money for
gas, but needed a phone card as well. I told him I would get one and I went
to foodlion and bought him one. Once We left there he then asked if there
was any way i could buy him and his boy some food. I said sure again and
took him by checkers and got him and his boy some food. As we were waiting
for the food I took time and prayed with him that his daughter would be ok.
He kept asking me where I went to church and I told him Lifepoint, and then
he asked if i had a card or something. I said no but remembered I got one in
todays handout. I gave that to him and he was so happy. After that I prayed
once more and left. I was very skeptical of the whole situation, but I knew
that wasn’t the point. If that man ripped me off tonight, thats between him
and God. Something that kept going through my head was in the Bible, Jesus
says “When i was hungry, you feed me…and when I was cold, you gave me
clothing”. and the disciples then asked when they had done this and Jesus
said “whenever you do this to the least of these, you have done them to me”.
I wasn’t gonna miss this chance. Like I said, if I got ripped off, its just
money. No big deal. Christ saw my heart.

Thank you…thank you with all my heart for that AWESOME and moving message yesterday. Every message you teach is very special….but yesterday, was especially special to me and I want to share with you why.

For several weeks I have been praying (along with life group lead by your mom and dad) that the Lord would in some way touch the heart of my 18 year old son and bring him to church. Every Sunday I have invited him and he has refused. My son has been “unsure” of his beliefs for a while. Well yesterday, I had sign in duty for kids church at the first services. As I was sitting there checking in the kids, God touched my heart. He told me to go home and get him and bring him to church. So after check in I went home, woke up my son and told him it would mean alot to me if he would get up and go with me to the 2nd service. When he asked my why I simply told him that I wasn’t sure why, but God wanted him there for a reason. Of course, he looked at me as if I were crazy, but agreed to go.

Long story short, he cried (and I cried) several times during the service. After service, he saw three people he had gone to high school with and chatted briefly with them. But the most exciting thing, his younger brother asked him when we were walking to the car if he liked the service…..his reply, “yeah buddy I did….I felt like the pastor was speaking directly to me.” I don’t know the next step for my son, I pray he will be in church every Sunday with me, but I am positive of one thing, the Lord touched his heart yesterday….my prayer was answered!

I thank God each night for leading me to Lifepoint and for blessing you with words we all need to hear!

It just so happened that Shawn and I got the same “Shine Assigment”, to bake some goodies and deliver them to the police or fire departments in the community…..so since I had the day off today, we baked cookies and brownies and delivered them to the Myrtle Grove Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Kure Beach Police Department. Both companies seemed very pleased and wished us a “MERRY CHRISTMAS”. It felt really good to be able to just say “we appreciate all that you do”. Especially being able to show our appreciation to the volunteers…they aren’t being paid to be there, but they risk their lives for strangers every day without question.

Thank you Lifepoint for giving us the “little push” to do something that made us feel as good as I’m sure it made those men and women feel!

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to share God’s love with an incentive of a $20.00 bill. I have been wanting to do something
special for a 5 year old with a kidney disease (Nephrotic syndrome). I first introduced the idea to a few co-workers and our kindergarteners at the school where I work. It was shot down by a technicality—The boy does not live in our district, therefore we can’t help him as a school. Okay we won’t be formal and I’ll just get permission from my principal to spread the word informally…She was wonderful about it… Still Not much response—UNTIL I took that 20, purchased one of the first items on his wish list…..I prayed that it would snowball if I shared the story of receiving that envelope from church; what God can put on our heart to use it for…Well, every day this week, a gift has been delivered to our classroom from someone. The compassion that the children in our kindergarten class have has spilled over to their parents and now we are being blessed to pass on the blessing to a very deserving child. The coolest part of my story is this:
This little boy, because of his immune system deteriorating, will probably never get to attend school, but what a first impression of school, to make on his heart-“He is accepted and a part of our class regardless of his ability to attend.” Thanks Lifepoint for reminding me too** It has never been my money (all of the money from my hand—has never been mine to begin with..I knew that, right?

MY card had said to SHINE the light of jesus by purchasing lunch for someone who is homeless! well after church i was heading to wall-mart and sure enough there was a man sitting there. My mom met me 30 min later, after i had watched where the man had walked to back in the woodsi headed to McDonalds. We decided he would want a big cheese burger, fries, and a drink. As we parked the car across from the woods where he had gone back into by wall-mart we headed that way. AS we walked up we called out to him and he replyed can i halp you. We told him we had brought him some food and wasnt sure if he was hungry, he said yes i am, we gave him the food and drink he was so thankfull it was unbelivble! HE couldnt stop thanking us. As we walked away my mom mentioned that she thought there was more then him back there. I turned around and walked back over and called out to him again and asked if he was alone he said no that there was three of them. i asked if they were hungry and he said no that someone had just fed them. I couldnt help but think that god did that with people through our church and their shine cards. Your message was amazing and that idea of a shine card was awsome. From now on im going to keep shinging for Jesus with the idesa from all the different shine cards in mine. It was amazing what five dollars can do it was life changing and i just wanted to say thank you for reminding me of the simple ways to shine the light for Jesus.

I was so moved by Sundays message and the let Jesus shine through us. It also was so sad how people are losing faith in church, but I was the same before Lifepoint.
I received the shine card with the 20 dollars included, and to ask God who I needed to give it to. After church I drove through downtown like normal, because my son has to say hi to the train on Water St at the railroad museum. As I was driving through I was praying to god to tell me who needs this money. I drove by a guy who was picking up a quarter off the ground. So I asked god if that was him…but I didn’t see or feel any kind of sign that was spoken of. So I started to head home, feeling a bit skeptical.
I know how skeptical I am so I was starting to feel unsure if I was going to recognize a sign…and ignore it. God obviously knows this because no lie, right then, I had a blowout while driving…but not where the car was hard to steer off the road, just noisy. I pulled to the side of the road and began to change my tire, when a man pulled up and refused to let me change the tire, so he did it for me. I then looked back at his car and saw a handicap decal on his mirror and baby car seats in the back. When he was done I told him that he was going to think I was crazy, but right before my blowout I was praying to God to tell me who to give money to, that my church gave me today. I told him if me having my tire go out and you coming to help me wasn’t a sign….then I don’t know what was! He kept telling me he didn’t want my money, he just stopped beause he saw my kids in the car. I told him it wasn’t MY money. Thank you Lifepoint!!!!

i was given 20 dollars at lifepoint this week to shine the light of Jesus to someone. i don’t live in wilmington so i was feeling real pressure to do something with it right away before i left the area for the week. the Lord kept pointing me to the next door neighbor and i argued with Him cause this guy’s dog always pees all over my bushes and i never really tried too hard to befriend him. however, God won out and i left a note and put it in his mail box on mon. morning early before i left. i wish i could have seen his face but didn’t want to wake him up that early in the morning. i’m not sure if he will even know it was from me but that isn’t the point, is it? God knows that finally my heart was right and hopefully, my neighbor will too. thanks lifepoint for forcing us to show your love even when we aren’t sure we want to.

We set out today to deliver our homemade cookies. We took them to the local fire houses, EMT’s, and the great guy who stands on the median by Chik Fil A in Monkey Junction. It was so much fun! The firemen and EMT’s were a little shocked but very grateful. The homeless guy on the median said he hadn’t had fresh baked homemade cookies in a very long time. And best of all he said, “God Bless You” and smiled.

well my wife and i were driving down kerr ave yesterday (the part that runs parrallel to the airport) and saw a lady in brightly colored clothing, short hair, and lots of jewelry hitch hiking. she looked safe and i assumed that she was a teacher (with the lime green sweater :) so we turned around and offered to give her a ride. as she walked up to the car, i couldn’t help but notice the huge smile that came upon her face, not to mention the missing tooth in the very front of her mouth.
her deamnor, let me know right off that she probably wasn’t a teacher, she seemed to be on some drugs.
so we offered her a ride and she said thanks. she was headed to pay her cell phone bill. she explained that she always hitch hikes b/c of wilmington’s horrible transit system and she doesn’t have a car.
she was from florida and had just moved up here, living in a mobile home on her landlords property. formerly a commercial cleaner, she now is on disability and has a 19 year old daughter with 3 children. i quickly understood that her needs, for whatever reason, were much greater than mine. as we passed over market st, i turned into the shopping center to drop her off at kiwi. she never asked for money, but i had already asked her the amount of her phone bill. which is $40. so my wife and i put our lifepoint money together and gave it to her. she was taken aback to say the least.
we told her about the church and gave her the directions. she told us about her needs and we prayed with her. it was pretty neat.

My daughter received $20 in her envelope last Sunday. She attends Myrtle Grove Middle School and knew one of the Bell girls that was burned in the house fire over the weekend in Leland that killed two little boys and burned the other members of the family. The school is collecting donations to help the family so my daughter decided to donate the $20 to the Bell family.

My envelope contained $20.00. My first instinct was to hurry up and give it away…patience is something I am working on. I kept hearing a voice saying “just wait you will know when it is right.” Tuesday morning I heard on the news that 2 little boys died in a fire in Leland and Wednesday morning on the news they said the donations were going to pay for their funerals. I knew right then that’s what the money was meant for.

I got the “babysit for a friend” shine card. I know this great couple who is trying to get out of debt, so they don’t have a lot of extra money to pay loads for a babysitter for their 3 kids. I was excited to offer to babysit and give them a night to relax and enjoy each other. It was also great for me to hang out with their awesome kids. I hope they know how much Jesus and I love them.

My Shine card said to write a note appreciating a coworker. I have to admit it was a bit odd at first but I thought oh well I can do this. So I thought about who to write my note to and I decided to write it to one of my coworkers that always has a positive attitude and makes the workplace enjoyable. It was neat to encourage someone in such an unusual way. Thanks Lifepoint for the idea!

I got the buy someone coffee. card and well it is easy because i work at the coffee shop. This lady who comes in everyday is in the midst of a personal crisis and today she came in and was obviously having a bad day. She said it has been an emotional roller coaster and today was the down part. SO i reached into my tip jar and said your coffee is on me, she said no ill pay. I responded by smiling and saying people have blessed me all day with tips, and now im blessing you. To prove God is great the next lady that came in gave me $5 tip. So God does bless those who are faithful to him!

I have been wandering in the dark until Lifepoint started lighting my way. My heart became so FULL on Sunday that $20 was not enough. I pledged to add another $80. There is one homeless person I am looking for and cannot find. Impatient to shine the light of Jesus I took 4 tags from the Christmas tree and went shopping. I am still keeping that money in reserve for the specific homeless person, I will find him, and continue to look for ways to shine God’s light.
I am so stoked I will be driving with the following song cranked for a long time!
Shine by Collective Soul
Give me a word
Give me a sign
Show me where to look
Tell what will I find ( will I find )
Lay me on the ground
Fly me in the sky
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find ( will I find )

Oh, heaven let your light shine down (x4)

Love is in the water
Love is in the air
Show me where to go
Tell me will love be there ( love be there )
Teach me how to speak
Teach me how to share
Teach me where to go
Tell me will love be there ( love be there )

Oh, heaven let your light shine down (x4)

Im going to let it shine (x2)
Heavens little light gonna shine on me
Yea yea heavens little light gonna shine on me
Its gonna shine, shine on me
Its gonna shine, come on in shine

As soon as I received this envelope Sunday, I thought of my co-worker Erin because she just had a death in the family and had to fly to New York last Friday. I thought about all the cool things I could do and just wasn’t sure what to do so I figured I’d let God show me what to do and for who. After thinking all week about what I could do:

-Going through the drive through of a fast food restaurant and paying for the poeple behind me until the money was gone
-Paying for someones groceries in front me at the supermarket
-Getting a Walmart gift card and giving it to a lady and child at a bus stop
-Pretending to put gas in my car until I saw someone right to pay for their gas
-Picking a name off an Angel Tree and getting the gift
-Going to the Emergency Room to see if there was a mother and child
-Going to the hospital where children are sick and bringing them all an angel doll
-Paying for someone’s bill at the vet when I was waiting to pay mine
-Putting it in a Christmas card and leaving it on my neighbors door

All these things were great, but it just didn’t seem to be the right time. I was beginning to think it might be more than a week before I’d find the right person to bless. Finally Erin came back to work today and she was so sad and couldn’t wait to get her paycheck today because they had no money. I just knew it! Since I prepare her paychecks, I decided to put the money and church business card in the envelope with her paycheck. I also enclosed a note and ended it with a verse:

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us.” (Psalm 67:1)

I had the “buy someone coffee” card. This past Monday at the register at Port City Java I bought a coffee, gave the girl a $3 tip then gave her $5 and asked her to “Please use this $5 to buy the next person in line a Coffee” (I just capitalized coffee – scary!!) I then went to the “fixin” station to watch from afar the reaction of the lady that came in behind me – she did not see me implement the plan. I saw no reaction after she ordered. As I walked out to go back to work the register girl asked me, “Did you say I can use this for anyone?”

Now think about it, the instructions I gave her above were very clear and verbatim to what I said that day. It reminds me how God speaks to us in his Word and we still get confused. The register girl thought it was too good to be true and she had to ask me again. The beautiful lesson here is that God loves us so much that we can go back to him over and over and ask him “Please forgive me for not living in your will, please, please forgive me”.

But why do we get confused and make life “Messy” -
Proverbs 3:5-5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.”

I received an envelope with $20 and the task of telling someone my story. Well… one girl’s name popped into my head immediately. Having recently been in the healthcare field, I am struggling because I know how much I helped my staff previously during the holidays as they make so little money and need so much. Monday morning, I called a friend of mine, who is also this girl’s boss and asked her how she was doing. She told me that the girl had called out and was concerned because she had been doing this a lot lately. She had even been borrowing money from her co-workers and wasn’t really doing a good job. I thought that I wasn’t meant to give her the money. So, after attending a meeting downtown, I was riding up Dawson Street and saw a girl walking with scrubs on. I took that to mean that I was to find anyone with scrubs on and give them the money… after all, they are all working hard for so little money. However, this one girl’s name became quite convicted on my heart. This morning, I took the money to her; explained where it came from and told her that a blessing came with it. I told her about how God wanted her to be the best she can be no matter what she is doing – that she needed to commit to working hard. I also said that gossip had no place in the workplace and that she was to receive the blessing and that God would provide the rest. She started crying and said that she would always love me but that she had heard the blessing. I told her that as she only knew one side of my story, that I had never been as happy as I am right now as I am personally receiving God’s blessing… she will too!

I received an envelope with 20 dollars last week during the second service. I was really shocked and caught off guard. I thought this task would be easy but found out it wasnt as easy as I thought it would be. It is funny when you dont have the money to help you can think of who and what order you would help if you had the money. Now that I have some money I found myself being real picky on who I could help the most instead of just helping anybody who needs it. I went to Walmart to buy food for the family unit and there in the check out line (over to the right of me) a Mom with 5 kids, 2 of which was under 3, was checking out. I only notice this family due to her kids knocking down the candy rack. I could tell the stress level was high and she knew the eyes were all upon her too. I had just put my food on the belt when I notice the people behind her switch over to my side. I look to see why and notice she had the teller puting food back in her cart due to her funds. I really dont know how much she was short but I knew she needed money so I step over while my food was being scaned and handed to her the 20 dollar bill with Life Point business card attached. I had attached it for the day I gave it to somebody to show Life Point cares and not to steal the thunder of our church. The teller took off the card and asked her if she wanted it, I didnt look straight at her but I could see her out of the corner of my eye. She put it in her purse and put most of the food back on the belt. I really didnt give her a chance to say thank you but I saw it is her eyes. The man behind me said “God Bless You young man” which was awesome since I am 40! I didnt care for the Thank You I cared to help.

My shine card said to write a note of appreciation to a coworker. I thought all week who that would be. Would it be to someone that I would normally thank, someone I’ve never spoken to or someone I did not even like? When I finally thought of my person I realized it was someone that I did not know but saw everyday, and she generally looks stressed out. I thought she could use a pick me up! So I found a pretty little card and wrote some nice things on there about her and all of her hard work. Today she told me how much I made her day and that it felt so good to be appreciated! I am so glad I picked her!

Late day shopping at Wal-Mart: inpaticient shoppers in line, tired cashiers; not much ‘holiday cheer’ in evidence. I finished my transaction, wished the checker a merry Christmas (no response) and started for the exit. I had noticed a difference in the atmosphere in the line to my right – laughter, smiles; not what you might expect from late day shopping, and as I passed the rows, I felt a pull to return. I took the $20 from my envelope and tucked it into the pocket of the cashier with the smile on her face as I said “I think you are meant to have this-I want you to know that Jesus loves you.” She turned to me, saying ‘wait, wait” , and I was afraid that she couldn’t or wouldn’t accept the gift, but instead I was enveloped in the most intense HUG I have experienced in years. It seemed that time slowed for a moment – when we pulled back, there were tears on both sides. She replied: “They pulled me in for extra time; I usually work in the garden department – this has been a challenge. My name is Janet” I responded: ” your name means God’s precious gift”. The question in her eyes was answered when I said “I know; my name is Janet, too.

well, i asked myself, “what is more valuable, time or money?” i figured, i can always replinish money, but time is more valuable because once it’s gone…it’s gone for good. however, let’s be realistic here…money is pretty important too since that’s what it takes to buy christmas presents. anyway, i decided to volunteer my time at the boys and girls brigade on vance street. i helped kids decorate cookies at a christmas party there. i was pretty amazed at how great these kids were. they were well behaved and nice to eachother. but i didn’t want to give JUST time (even though i did conclude that time is more valuable), so i also purchased some stockings for four of the children to open at the end of the party. it was a pretty great time, and i’m going to continue to volunteer there because they’ve got a really good thing going at the boys and girls brigade. thanks, lifepoint, for the reminder that it’s not all about me and i need to be getting out there and spreading God’s love. Merry Christmas!!!

It is amazing what God can do when he changes your life and you start shining for him. This is not my story and did not happen because of Sunday’s message but happened because of Lifepoint Church. About a year ago I had a very difficult time with my father and because of how I handled that situation, my sister saw a change in my life and wanted to know more. I had her listen to several of Jeff’s messages, and then started sending her CD’s every week and eventually started sending her the DVD’s. She and her husband watched the DVD’s every week and started inviting family members to come watch. At this time, she was not saved but was led to the Lord in April of this year. She continued to live for God and share her faith daily. God started blessing her like you can not imagine. She recently found a church to call home and after a few weeks now has her husband, my other sister and her husband, her two sons and daugher-in-law and her husbands daughter and wife and family attending church with her. She told me this week she took up a whole row. Several of these individuals have now accepted Christ as their savior. Her husbands son-in-law had major drug addictions and once he accepted the Lord, he requested that they assist him in finding help for his addition. He is now at the Dream Center in Phoenix, Arizona and said this is a life changing experience for him. He is becoming drug free and growing in the Lord. As if this were not enough, she told me a story this week that had me in tears. Several years ago when she was going through a difficult divorce and had no money, a friend lent her $1,500. She never repaid the debt but was reminded by God to pay him back this week. She wrestled with God but knew what she had to do. She wrote the check, went to work but did not see her friend. She thought maybe God really did not tell her to give the money back. As she stood in line for coffee, the friend came in to the coffee shop. She said how are you doing and he said not good, my daughter is in her final year of Medical School and has requested several medical items for Christmas that she really needs. He said he did not have the money and did not know how to tell herhe could not buy the items. My sister said, stop, and handed him the check for $1,500. He broke into tears and said “You just made my Christmas”.
Because of Lifepoint Church, people are being saved in Pennsylvania, one young man is getting his life together and his family restored and one family will have a blessed Christmas. You never know how God will use you when you are obedient to Him.

Giving money to people I don’t know has never been an easy thing for me to do, so when I opened my envelope and found $20 the pressure was on. I had prayed to God for help fulfilling whatever was asked of me, so I knew his hand was in this. And it was confirmed when the person next to me asked me to give her $20 anonymously to another. God is amazing . . . after service the individual was standing alone which gave me the opportunity to approach. I will never know the situation but the response let me know God was shining brightly. Then later that evening I met a young man who was about to embark on a path to point his life in the right direction, leaving his mistakes in Wilmington and starting over elsewhere. While talking with him I felt God’s push to give the money to help him start the journey. Again, God was shining brightly.

We have attended Lifepoint twice and on Sunday my husband and I both got the $20 in our handout. We were very inspired by the message and were excited to see what we would be called to do with the money. After church we were planning on getting a Christmas tree with our kids. Ironically enough we had budgeted $40 to spend on a tree.We talked it over with the kids and asked them if we could use our tree money to match what the church had given us. Our kids were willing (well we had a brief discussion about whether or not you have to have a tree for presents) ,but our 7 year old decided that he would leave Santa a note telling him he could leave the presents on the floor! We then decided that we would think about it and decide what to do with the now $80.00. Our children really wanted to use it for other kids. I talked to a friend who had shared about some needs in her sons kindergarten class but those kids were already being sponsered so we again asked our kids what they thought we should do. Our 4 year old had done the angel tree with her grandmother and said that she wanted to do it again. On Thursday night we took our 2 oldest children (7&4)to the mall and they each picked an angel & we shopped. It was so amazing to see them sort of get it! They were excited to pick out things that they thought their angel might like and both enjoyed being able to help. You tell a kid that there are other children that do not have and might not get a christmas and it is almost like a secret order where they have to take care of each other!- I hope that is contagious! We need to remind ourselves that Christmas is not about a tree or presents but a celebration of our Lords birth and life and his gift to us. Don’t get me wrong next year we will probably have a tree but for this year it has been kind of neat to know why our tree isn’t up and to know that we were able to do something for someone else and have our children involved. Our kids have not mentioned the tree! I am talking to myself when I say that it is easy to get distracted by the trees and gifts and hustle and bustle of the holiday season- but my husband and I were inspired by the message and then inspired by our children and I hope that this Christmas a difference is made one person at at time. We are thankful for what God has done for us and thankful for the reminder to always do for others as well.

We waited patiently all week for God to show us an opportunity to share our 20$ gift with someone. Having waited, Sunday came again and we had no story. Then today, after church, armed with a handful of flyers promoting the Christmas Eve homeless outreach, we drove around Greenfield Lake looking for homeless people to give them to. Nobody! Then as we emerged onto 5th Avenue, I looked up the street to see two guys, and one of them had a large plastic bag flung over his shoulder. They made a turn up an alleyway just before I drove up, and we quickly rolled down the window and I called out to them as they walked away. “Hey! Could you guys give us a hand, please?” Their response showed neither suspicion nor hesitancy. “Sure thing! What can we do for you sir?” came their answer. I explained that I was looking for some homeless people to share these flyers with and a Christmas Eve Dinner too. As I expected, the answer was “Well, we’re homeless.” I asked them if they would mind helping us get the word out by handing out some of our flyers, and of course they agreed readily, saying, “We know lots of folks out here on the street.”
I introduced myself and my wife and gave them a personal invitation. They said their names were Darrell and Terry. Then I remembered the twenty in my wallet. “Have you eaten lately,” I asked? Terry said he had a bagel in his pocket that a man had given him earlier. Darrell told us that he spent the night trying to get out of the rain by sleeping under a bridge, and that he was very hungry. I gave them the twenty, with only one condition. I asked, “Will you promise me that you’ll split this and get some food?” They promised. I was happy that my wife was with me during this moment. God touched our hearts and used this as an opportunity to minister, not so much to Terry and Darrell, but to us. We haven’t had an easy time for the last year, but how obvious the Lord has made it to us that we are blessed and gifted by Him this Christmas. The blessings are not ours to keep, but to pass it on and allow His light to SHINE!

Since joining Lifepoint Church, God has shined many blessings with in our family. We have been blessed in so many ways with friends, prayers, and in ways we cannot begin to explain. When we started the Shine series, and received the envelope with money, we truly had no idea, who needed a blessing this season. We started in the direction to give to the Turner family (fire victims) from Brunswick County, but every time Donna would passed the BB&T she didn’t have the money, it was almost God was telling her that this is not where he wanted our blessing to go. We continued to wait to see what he wanted us to do, and Saturday our answer came. We were able to shine and bless a family in our church, who had to two children who wanted to summer camp. They are working hard to get there deposit together for January, and didn’t think they were going to get it. So we took the money we received from God and added to it, and now they have there deposit. The true blessing was on there face, to see it shine and light up, behind all of the tears of joy and happiness.

Yesterday afternoon was devoted towards Christmas cookie baking extraveganza 2007. My card in the bulletin last Sunday read: Make a tastey treat and deliver it to a neighbor. This sparked interest to, why not just 1 neighbor but the ones that surround us. I baked up enough cookies to fill up 5 cookie tins and last night, I roamed the neighborhood to deliver the tins. I met 2 neighbors I had yet to meet and was able to shine light on the neighbors I spoke to only briefly. How exciting to shine the light of God’s provisions on the world and to not take any credit for the good works for they are God working through us to reach others.

I wasn’t able to be there for the whole SHINE series so I didn’t get any of those little cards, but I was there this morning and I have to say it wasn’t on accident that I made it there. It was exactly what I needed to hear. While I was in NY this past 4 weeks, I got the opprotunity to hang out with different people, all being homeless. This one guy, George. He rocked! He was so Real. He has been through alot. We got to talking and he shared his story of how he got to where he was at. Earlier I was walking through Central part and found $10 on the ground, I was like Sweet, Money! Fast forward a little. I was talking to George and found out he is a drug user and has AIDS. He told me that he didn’t want to tell me cause he thought I wouldn’t talk to him anymore. Man, I’ve done alot of drugs in my life to, don’t think just because of that, that I’m going to walk away. He tried to sell me some T-shirts that he had to make some money to get food. I was able to give him the $10 I had found in Central Park and told him to give the T-shirts to one of his friends. Wow…we started walking and one of his friends walked up and what did he do…he gave the t-shirts to another homeless guy!! It does start a chain reaction!! I was not only able to Shine Jesus into his life…But He shined into mine as well!

Wow, Shine is a fabulous series. I was so tired last week and was listening to the beginning messages about the Angel tree, how there were still 50 children who were in need for Christmas. I had taken an angel last week but I was very sad and discouraged because in the past I have been in a position to be generous and this year money has been very very tight. It really had me in a bad mood, but I am determined to get out of debt. Anyway as usual once church started, I was feeling better, but I still was trying to figure out how I could help another person from the angel tree. Then Jeff told us to open our envelopes. Well I had been in such a mood, I could not even find my envelope. I looked all over and thought I had lost it. I was even more discouraged. Finally I found it, just as Jeff was saying there was money in some of the envelopes, and I held it and prayed. Please let there be money in this envelope so I can take another angel from the angel tree. Well God knew what I needed and there was $20.00 in my envelope. I started to cry. Never has $20 meant so much to me as that money did. That 20 was my hope and my encouragement just as I was at my lowest point. I could barely wait for the service to end so I could go pick an angel becase God showed me that he is there in your darkest hour and when you need his hope the most. All week I have been spreading the word about the church that gives money away and SHINES the light of Jesus on everyone. Thank you Lifepoint.

I just started attending your church and I find it heart warming each week. I feel like I can realte to each of your stories. Two weeks ago i was given a card to buy a stranger a cup of coffee. As i was driving I came to a stop sign and a homless man walked in front of my car. He walked several feet away when I called out to him. He came up to my car and I gave him some money and told him to get himself a sandwich and a cup of coffee. My 7 year old son was in the car and said wow mom that was really nice what you just did. I had tears in my eyes because my son “got it”. I was never so proud of him as I was at that moment. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be with you every week to keep the light in our hearts alive.

We came to church on the 9th at the invitation of our son. Awesome message and music!! Well, I got one of the $20 bills and started furiously thinking about how to meet the challenge. One of the ladies in our church (Susan) has a couple of families she works with that don’t have much, so I thought why not buy them a couple of turkeys, etc. for Christmas dinner. When I asked Susan if she thought that to be suitable, she immediately said that she had a better idea… one of her special needs kids (she works with regularly) family’s van was broken and would I be willing to put the money to use there? I said of course and that I’d add some to it. I didn’t know it but she then took this commitment and challenge to her adult Sunday School Class. Now here’s the AWESOME GOD part of the story – the $20 turned into $200 in just 45 minutes, which I believe was just enough to get the van fixed. Shine on!!!!

My prayer was finally answered concerning the twenty dollar bill that was burning a hole in my pocket. I was reminded Monday night that my boys Cub Scout pack was sponsoring a family for Christmas. Immediately I knew what I was to do with my gift. I sat down and wrote a letter to the family and placed the money in an envelope with it. The note read as follows:
Dear Family,
I am writing you a letter because I couldn’t think of any better way to share my Christmas story with you. I don’t know what mountains you are facing this year or this Christmas, but I do know that God put you on my heart. I believe He had this plan two weeks ago and so He laid it on my heart yesterday to put His plan into action.
Two weeks ago at the church I attend here in Wilmington, Lifepoint, Pastor Jeff started a series called “Shine.” Within the message everyone was challenged to let their light shine for Jesus and carry that light into someone else’s life. To give the congregation a starting block the church put envelopes in all their bulletins. Some of those envelopes said “bake cookies and take them to your local firestation,” some said “wrap a candy bar up with a note and leave it in your mailbox for your carrier,” and so on.
Mine had a twenty dollar bill in it to be given to someone special the Lord has shown you. well, for two weeks I carried this money in my front pocket praying that God would show me who I was to give this gift to. Finally, Monday night, I was reminded that our Cub Scout pack was sponsoring a family for Christmas. Immediately I knew without a doubt you were the one God wanted me to give His gift to. I don’t know God’s ultimate plan for this twenty dollars, but I believe your family is on His heart and I feel blessed to be part of His plan for your family. I wish you a very Merry Christmas and I pray that each and every blessing God showers upon your family this coming year be received with thanksgiving and awe of His LOVE for you and your family.

In Our Savior’s Love,
Paul

P.S. And know that I will be lifting your family up in my prayers throughout the year.

Thank you so much for the gift of giving. I was undone when I opened my envelope to find twenty dollars and was ask to bless someone. I had been struggling with my attitude toward Christmas…being so commercial and honestly a chore….something wonderful happened when I was reminded by being givent the money to give..that Christmas really is about giving…Thank you for giving me the wonderful priviliege of giving. The Father gave his Son..the son gave his life…and the HOly Spirit…God is all about giving…and when we give…something extraordinary happens in us…we are doing what the Father does…giving…Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above..and it can be the simplest thing that we give…a smile, a hug, an encouragin word, a gentle reminder that it is better to give than receive…though it is nice to receive but there is something profound that happens to us when we give freely…so all that to say…wow…I am excited and really in the giving mode now…Thanks again for helping me refocus on what is truly important …not just at Christmas but every day of the year…so I am shining along with the rest of the body at Lifepoint. Thanks for blessing me so I could pass it on…

First I want to say thank you to Lifepoint for giving me this gift to give to someone else. This is a gift that will remain in my heart forever.

I was anxious to find someone to give my $20 gift to. I still had the envelope after the first week. Yesterday my husband, daughter and I were driving downtown for a walk. We talked about the envelope still hanging out in my purse and I decided to say a prayer. I asked God to let me know, I mean really let me know because I can be dim, if there was someone I saw in need of this $20 gift. A few minutes later we drove by a man standing on a corner eating nabs. My heart jumped. It was what your heart does when something scares you or really surprises you. My husband must have felt it to because he said “I think he is homeless” We decided to circle the block. When we came back around he was not standing there anymore. As we were driving past we saw him on the other side of the street sitting and chatting on a bench with a UPS guy. We turned around again and pulled to the side. I folded the $20 bill and held it in my palm. I walked up to the men and the man I had my eyes on said “Well hi girl!” As if he had been waiting for me. I held out my hand and said “this is for you. Merry Christmas and God Bless you.” The UPS guy gave me a strange look and said “Merry Christmas” I walked away and got back into our car. My husband turned around again to head back down town. The man came up to our window and said “God Bless you guys. Please don’t make me cry because I can feel it.” He told us that last night he woke up because he felt the rain on him and had to rush to get under a bridge. He then said that he knew today was going to be a good day because he had received two more blankets and now had five. He talked about the good people that he has met. Something in his crystal blue eyes were shining and it made my eyes shine with tears. We chatted for a few more minutes and told him to take care of himself. His name is Billy Joe and he will forever be in our hearts and prayers. Jesus rocks my world!!! The glory is all his!

Our youth life group which is called ” out the door ” collected items for the Hospital Hospitality House. I delivered them today. They were very excited and will be sending the church a thank you card. Just letting you know so when you get the card you will know who or what group did it. Thanks Paula and Tim

My Shine card said put a candy bar and note of appreciation in the mailbox for your mailman. Truthfully, I was disappointed. I guess I wanted to do something that was bigger…ya know?? So that Saturday, I rushed to the grocery store and picked out a few candy bars and came home and wrote a Christmas card, thanking our mail-person and letting them know we appreciated them, and I put it in the mailbox. Then, that Sunday morning I was quickly humbled when I was reminded that anything/everything I do unto the least of these, I am doing for Jesus. I cried and confessed my pride at doing such a “small” task. I did get a Christmas card back from our “Mail-mamm” saying she appreciated the sweets.

I received the shine card that says to shine the light of Jesus by offering to babysit for a friend. It had been some time that I received the card and I have patient in asking God the appropiate time. My sister asked me to babysit for her and I cheerfully accepted. Then my brother asked me if I could babysit his children that same day. They both needed to work that day. I was not feeling that well, so I just prayed to God and asked Him for strength and healing. I had 4 children here and I could not have been happier! We played games, talked about God, ate brownies, pizza, had pancakes, rode on our bikes, just had a blast! Thank you lifepoint! It was a blessing and I thank God for showing His love to these children!

The morning we were to start the shine series I was thinking about what the message would be about that day and how I had told my father I would buy a bike fro a child he knew that was very poor, and how here it was almost Christmas and I yet again was doing nothing. Then I went to church where I got $20 and I asked someone else for theirs and now I was able to buy the bike. Well that day I felt like a miracle had happened, so I told everybody how powerful God is and that he does hear.I felt totally uplifted until 2 days later i read about the family in Leland. I was sitting there with this $40 dollars and I had done nothing to get it. I decided that day that I would give up my tips from that night to the family. The very next day the house I had to clean for my business left exactly the same amount for a tip as what I had given up the night before. I started telling peopl all these won

(I guess I’ll finish here since some how editing turned into a submission for me)
Anyway I started telling my story to everybody. People started coming to my house with gifts and money for the family of the little girl I was giving the bike too, and they were going to work like I did and collecting tips for the family in Leland.
Every year I said that I wannted to do something for someone else and this year Lifepoint has inspired me to do so. You lit the spark an I am running with the torch. I know that I was able to give away about $400 worth of money and gifts this year because of $40 start.
I am thankful to Lifepoint for the new life that you have given me. Last night was New Years Eve and out at the bar I found myself asking every new person I met to come to church. I was telling my story at the bars on New Years Eve and people were listening. Six months ago I was a differant person and thanks to the inspiring messages that come from Lifepoint I am now becoming the person I’ve prayed I could someday become. So Jeff, you and your staff when you say Thanks to us for shining in the community we would like to say thank you all for inspiring us to do so..
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year…and believe me I will not be hiding this light under anything ever again.

I know this is late, but I always figure it’s better than never! The envelope I received had $20 in it. Going on a trip for Christmas, I carried the money envelope with me, but never felt the moment was right. I kept on praying for God to show me and finally, a couple days ago, I left the $20 in with a quick message of, “Have a great day and God loves you” underneath a gas pump so the next person to use it would find it. For me, it was the first time I did anything like that and it felt great. Thank you so much for thinking outside of the box and letting me be a part of blessing someone else.

I know that this is over a month late…almost two months late actually. But I figured I should still tell you how the money was used that I got in the envelope. Well, during the service, Jeff was talking about the angel tree and how you all really needed to take care of the people on the tree. There was just a week left in the program and still a tree full of names. I really wanted to help out, but being a college student, I had NO money. Well, later on during the sermon, Jeff had us open up the envelopes that we got and I had Twenty Dollars in mine! I actually thought it was fake, so I held it up to the light to see…but, nope. It was real! When I saw that it was real, I immediately didn’t want it (I have no clue why). Well, then I read the insert in the envelope that said: “Use this money to be a blessing and SHINE the light of Jesus to someone in need.” I was really excited! That meant that I now had money to spend on someone off of the Angel Tree! I had been given twenty dollars for free! It was like a gift to give away, so I was itching to get rid of the money in my hands. I got to thinking, sitting there, that that twenty dollars is just like the gift of Christ…when we had/have nothing to offer, Christ gave freely to us, so that we can share his love and the story of his gift with others. We should be itching to tell everyone else about Christ! So, in the end, my roommate, who was visiting the church that day, got twenty dollars as well, so we both went that day to get presents and turned them in after school that week. I think it was a good experience for the both of us. Anyways, I’m glad that I got the twenty dollars now, because two children in need got Christmas presents, and I learned something hopefully that I can teach others with, and that I’ll carry with me forever hopefully and apply to my life…how we should treat the gift of Christ.
